Persistent poor quality, cracking, and brittle hooves usually occur because of a vicious cycle that happens between the hoof quality and the environment.
First, the hoof becomes dry and brittle from the underlying dehydration and weakening of the keratin protein, the MAJOR structural protein of the hoof. This causes cracking, deteriorating hooves.
The vicious cycle--When hooves become weakened, they not only cannot handle ongoing mechanical stress, but they also crack, compromising the protective barrier that normally protects the hoof from the various fungi and mold usually present in soil. The Science of Regen-x EQ
The soundness of the hoof is dependent on maintaining the correct concentration of water that results in pliable and resilient hooves.
Regen-x EQ improves the hydration and tensile strength of the hoof by combining a water and oil emulsion with a proprietary orthophosphate compound. The emulsion facilitates the penetration of water into the hoof wall and the proprietary orthophosphate chemically makes the protein component of the hoof stronger. The proprietary orthophosphate finds and cements the gaps in the keratin helical structural protein. This active mineralization process improves the integrity of the hoof.

That' right water - Regen-x EQ consists of about 50% water, which if applied alone would just evaporate. In order to coax the water molecules to go through the waxy outer hoof layer (stratum eternum) to get to the "good stuff" (stratum medium), we combine an emulsifier with humectants to keep the water in suspension and in the area they need to penetrate. Humectants are water carriers which prevent water evaporation.
How do you get more strength and better resilience?
The proprietary orthophosphate dissolves in water and is carried into the hoof--this is where the strength building really begins. The orthophosphate looks for two different types of proteins: collagen and keratin.
Those emulsifiers come in two forms, humectants and orthophosphates. Humectants are water based carriers, and slow down water evaporation. Orthophosphates dissolve in water, and this is where the strength building really begins. The orthophosphate looks for two different types of proteins: keratins and collagen.
Collagen is one of the proteins of the hoof that is the main component of connective tissue and mammals. The proprietary orthophosphate disables the osteoclasts, which encourages collagen to become stronger (since osteoclasts eat and demineralize collagen).
Keratin is the major protein in the hoof, a strong specialized structural protein, gives hooves their strength and support. The proprietary orthophosphate finds gaps in the helical structure of the keratin protein and acts like a cement to strengthen the keratin fibers. Denser keratin + moisture penetration = more dense hoof with greater quality. So it is this cementing of the protein gaps that has the most pronounced effects.
This process creates a hydrated hoof with strong structural proteins that will hold shoes better and resist infection by external bacteria and fungi.
And because it is special water and oil emulsion, Regen-x EQ quickly penetrates all structures of the hoof to deliver proper moisture balance. The Regen-x EQ formula carries into the hoof wall and coronary band the proprietary orthophosphate that quickly creates a stronger, more dense hoof capsule.

Directions for Application:
Clean hoof thoroughly before each application.
Apply thin layer of cream to coat entire hoof including the coronet band, heel, sole, and frog areas. Apply twice a day until desired strength and pliability of hooves are achieved, then apply once a day to maintain hooves. Best if used within 90 days of opening bottle. Each bottle contains 200 applications. Store in a cool dry place.
