Ian Miller Bio

Ian Millar is an iconic international show jumper who hails from Halifax, Ontario. Having competed on the Canadian show jumping team for over forty years, Ian has affectionately been nicknamed “Captain Canada”. His first Olympic medal was a Team Silver at age 61 in 2008. He set the world record in 2012 at the London Games for most Olympic appearances ever made – it was his 10th games – where he finished 9th individually with his horse Star Power.

Ian Millar’s career highlights include back to back World Cup Final wins in 1988 and 1989 with his legendary partner Big Ben, two time winner of the $1 Million CN International at Spruce Meadows, 9 medals from the Pan American Games (including two gold), and named 10 times Canadian National Champion. Ian was inducted into Jump Canada Hall of fame in 2012.

Ian runs his 600 acre training facility, Millar Brooke Farm, outside of Perth Ontario with his son Jonathon and daughter Amy. They adopted the name “Team Millar” around the international show jumping circuit and are often called Canada’s First Family of show jumping. 

Team Millar is dedicated to training horses and riders of all levels and furthering the sport of show jumping.
